Miss Amaya Mikki René DeFlorimonte, daughter of Michael and DeShonne DeFlorimonte, is proudly presented by her father. A senior at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, Amaya exemplifies dedication to academics, community service, leadership and athletics. She has earned a place on the honor roll every year of high school and is an engaged member of the Black Student Union, a Dragon (school) Ambassador, a Class Representative, and an Executive Member of the Eco Club. For her Senior year she was selected as one of 14 distinguished seniors to be an Eco Leader-a group committed to advocacy, awareness, and action in environmental preservation. During her junior year, she was voted Homecoming Princess by her classmates. Amaya serves as Captain of the Varsity Track & Field Team, earning a spot at the California State Championships during her freshman, sophomore and junior years, with senior year on the horizon.
Beyond her school commitments, Amaya is involved with First Covenant Church (Oakland) and Destiny Church (Milpitas). She is the co-founder of A Black Girl's Perspective, an online blog designed to uplift Black girls, foster connection, and inspire the sharing of personal narratives. Her dedication to service also extends to the Boys & Girls Club of Oakland, where she has been an active and engaged volunteer, and to the Girl Scouts, where she has earned both the Bronze and Silver Awards and is diligently working toward her Gold Award.
Following graduation, Amaya plans to pursue a degree in Marine Biology, with the aspiration of attending graduate school to specialize in marine biotechnology or marine law.
